Abstract

GALFIONE, VERÓNICA. IS SELF-REFLECTIVE NORMATIVITY POSSIBLE? REFLECTIONS ON MODERN AESTHETICS. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2022, vol.71, suppl.9, pp.75-99.  Epub June 25, 2024. ISSN 0120-0062.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.vol71n9supl.106743.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the extent to which the definition of negativity in terms of force proposed in the framework of Christoph Menke's aesthetic reflections can overcome the frames from which the tradition has thought this concept. My hypothesis is that Menke distances himself from metaphysics tendency to identify negativity with spirit but tends to reproduce the same dualistic scheme with which the traditional interpretation had established the exteriority of negativity. In this respect, Menke's attempt is paradoxical, because he seeks to apprehend a fundamental negativity, but uses terms that reflect the need to neutralize the hiatus inherent to normativity.

Keywords : Aesthetics; normativity; negativity; artistic praxis; subjectivity.
