Abstract

NOVOA, Carlos. Alterity in the Contemporary Ethical Debate. Theol. Xave. [online]. 2018, vol.68, n.185, pp.97-124. ISSN 0120-3649.  https://doi.org/10.11144/javeriana.tx68-185.adec.

We are in the permanent construction and evolution of the universal minimal ethical consensus, a matter of transcendental importance for mankind. Through this essay, I want to contribute to the conformation of this consensus, arguing that alterity is an ethical minimum in which Philosophy and Theology come together. Therefore, I will analyze some current and important ethical philosophical schools (as analyzing all would turn out to be impossible). On the same line, I will also analyze the Christian theological ethics and the contributions that each of the mentioned schools make on behalf of alterity, taking into account their differences.

Keywords : Christianism; Ethics; Alterity; Consensus; Transformation.
