Abstract

This article analyzes some theories and models in public health understanding it as a knowledge field which is under transformation. The discussion on health theories has focused us into differentiation of schools and trends of thought close to public health and epidemiology. This debate implies different ideological and political conceptions which are responsible of major contradictions and dissimilar epistemological approaches to the health-disease issue. The conclusion aims to the necessity of models thet tend to structural, integral and political approach on public health by which methods and techniques of the biological and natural sciences come together, but taking into account the values and principles of social sciences along with reasonable and political performances. The new public health, social medicine and the holisitc-social options are underlined
