Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to describe the ability of self-care agency service users hypertensive external consultation of the University Hospital Erasmo Meoz, in Cucuta. Materials and Methods: this was a cross-sectional study of a quantitative conducted during the first half of 2012, volunteers who required to have completed Questionary of Capacity of Agency of self-care. Results: The overall levels of self care were as follows: 83.1% showed a low self care capac-ity, 6.2 % showed average self care capacity and 10.8 % showed a high capacity. The same trend was found with the promotion and operation categories of personal development, personal interaction, and activity and rest. Conclusions: The results obtained in this study allow to comprehensively assess the effect on the ability of the self-care agency in the participants. This confirms the importance of nursing forceful work in strengthening these people as being able to use reason to under-stand their health, making decisions for specific action and generate favourable behavior towards their own care.
