Abstract Chikungunya virus is a mosquito-borne pathogen that has a major impact on the health of humans, causing acute febrile illness, pain in joints and in many cases persistent joint pain that lasts for weeks or years. The resurgence of this virus has led to numerous outbreaks in several countries, threatening to spread further in the near future. There are currently no vaccines or drugs for prevention and treatment of infection by chikungunya. In this review, presents the different perspectives of the current state of research on antiviral drugs and vaccines in development stages for chikungunya virus infection.
