Abstract
RICHE-JIMENO, Yeisson; CAMPUZANO-GRACIAN, Heiner and DIAZ-CABALLERO, Antonio. Maxillary osteonecrosis by electrosurgery lessons from a clinical case. CES odontol. [online]. 2022, vol.35, n.2, pp.17-25. Epub Dec 23, 2022. ISSN 0120-971X. https://doi.org/10.21615/cesodon.6719.
The use of electrocauteries as support elements in hemostasis processes has been widely reported and is part of the tools in surgical procedures in different medical areas, although its use in procedures in the oral cavity is lower. Currently its application has been increasing and it is involved in various dental procedures. When analyzing the literature, very little information is found regarding the complications associated with the use of electroscalpel, which are rare or unreported. A case report on Osteonecrosis induced by electro scalpel in the proximal zone of central incisors, after vestibular frenillectomy in the upper jaw, is presented. The process of overexposure of the maxillary bone to the action of electrosurgery tips can trigger Osteonecrosis. The bone sequestrations generated create subsequent periodontal defects after removal. Orthodontic movements accompanied by Zenith point recontouring and connective tissue grafts may be an alternative in the aesthetic management of the complication.
