Abstract

MORA PENAGOS, William Manuel. Capacity development and training of competences environment in teachers of science. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2015, n.38, pp.185-203. ISSN 0121-3814.

This reflection article is derived from the research field "Inclusion of the environmental dimension in Science Education" and, shows that "the education in Sciences" has been called to a change which can improve its links with the world of students' lives and particularly with the sustainability of the planet, that is why, environmental training of science teachers is fundamental. After wondering about the meaning of competences in the context of a hegemonic global educational project for economic development, the researchers assume a position in favour of re conceptualize the basic scientific competences in a broad cultural context that accommodates the dialogue of knowledge for facing the complexity of environmental problems. Supported in the review of several proposals of competences in the "Education for Sustainability", there is a list of key environmental competencies, which could have great potential to enable the development of didactic strategies, grounded in "socially alive issues" and over which it is an essential proposal to train the students. Finally, it is argued that the environmental training of science teachers can be approached based on a complex view of the "pedagogical knowledge of content" (pkc) in which we can inquire mistrusts and tensions between teaching practices that exist in "science education" (ES) and the "environmental education" (EE).
