Abstract
CALDERON-SUAZA, Camilo and LONDONO, Sergio. Social Justice in the Colombian Peace Agreement. A Political Analysis of the Discourse. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2023, n.68, pp.251-277. Epub Dec 14, 2023. ISSN 0121-5167. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.espo.n68a10.
This article seeks to interpret the discourse on social justice contained in the Colombian Peace Agreement signed between the Government and the FARC-EP guerrilla in 2016. To understand the discourse on social justice, present in the Agreement, Political Discourse Analysis was employed, along with the theoretical perspective of Nancy Fraser. To bridge the theoretical-methodological gap between the tools of Political Discourse Analysis and Fraser’s multidimensional perspective on justice, Axes of Subordination were established. The presence of a discursive formation that understood peace as a negotiated termination of the conflict is evident. This formation is further comprised of variations in discourse that outlined two visions regarding the scope of the solutions proposed in the Agreement, ultimately establishing the hegemony of the government’s discourse. This work contributes to understanding the political struggles present in the Agreement, its relationship with discourses on social justice, and the transformative scope of the programs designed to address the situations that underpinned the emergence and/or persistence of the armed conflict.
