Abstract
ALVAREZ FUENTES, Gonzalo and OVANDO SANTANA, Cristian. South American Defense Council: Possibilities of integration from a constructivist perspective. Pap.polit. [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.2, pp.543-579. ISSN 0122-4409.
Historically the Latin American's State nations have shown a serie of domestic and international edges that have hampered the consolidation of the processes designed to achieve greater levels of agreement and regional integration. These factors have prevented the position of the continent in the global system as a more autonomous and consistent region. However, in the first decade of this century, the South American Defense Council stands as a unique opportunity for regional integration, considering its exclusive Latin American nature and the goals presented by the institution. Based on the theoretical framework that provides the constructivist debate about the international relations, the following article are identified those key factors in the newly formed organization and that could be combined to achieve a greater concerted and regional integration, without neglecting the critical factors that could undermine the goals set by the Council.
Keywords : South American Defense Council; Union of South American Nations - UNASUR - Regional Integration; Constructivism.
