FIGUEROA-IBERICO, Ángela María. Linking Local Knowledge to Teaching Practice in Rural Contexts. Educ. Educ. [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.3, pp.379-401. Epub May 03, 2021. ISSN 0123-1294. https://doi.org/10.5294/edu.2020.23.3.2.
In Peru, the growing demand for rural education has caused a substantial revision of pedagogical objectives based on the analysis of new settings and problems in educational contexts. Incorporating local knowledge into teaching practices is an emerging field of research. This study aims to identify and discuss the local knowledge incorporated into high school teaching practices. For this, it presents two case studies of rural schools in the Huaura Province, Lima. The information was collected using class observations and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students. The categories of analysis applied were prior knowledge, cognitive interactions, and behavioral interactions. The results show a trend towards the inclusion of local knowledge, expressly data and facts, and warn about the need for introducing other local knowledge into teaching practices.
