Abstract

This study aimed to make visible the economic costs that violence against women for the business sector from a gender perspective. As part of an already designed methodology, previously validated questionnaires were applied to a sample of 172 employees from two Colombian companies. The questionnaire measures the impact of violence in labor productivity, from the perspective of the aggressor and the victim, in terms of absenteeism, lateness and, presenteeism. It was found that the cost of domestic violence for the two studied companies in the last year was 28.692,68 USD. This amount related to the size of the sample provides insight into the magnitude of the problem and the impact that such violence may have on the national gross domestic product. These findings are discussed.
