Abstract

BELLOD REDONDO, José Francisco. Claiming Rousseau. Rev.econ.inst. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.34, pp.29-37. ISSN 0124-5996.  https://doi.org/10.18601/01245996.v18n34.03.

Jean Jacques Rousseau, an eminent philosopher and writer, intellectual father of romanticism, hasn't received in the texts of history of economic thought the relevance he deserves. In this article we reviewhis most important contributions and discuss the possible causes of his exclusion. Our conclusion is that the centrality of inequality and the critique of private property in the economic discourse of Rousseauhave caused his undeserved exclusion.
