Abstract

BALLEN-VELASQUEZ, Laura Milena. Over growing the category of Fringe. Reflections from the case of Bogotá. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.2, pp.131-140. ISSN 0124-7913.

This article analyzes the origins and possibilities that offer the category of rural-urban fringe to delimit and study peripheral territories suggesting a conceptual framework that includes trialectic understanding of the space (Soja, 1989; 1996), an Actor network Theory and (Latour, 2005) anddis-cursive coalitions (Hajer, 1995). This invites to overgrow the traditional characterization of fringes as like as border or intermediate stage in the consolidation of urbanization.

Through study of Bogotá city, Colombia, where the concept of fringe was adopted to define and regulate areas of confluence between urban, environmental and rural, the analytical framework proposed is applied. This raise to examine the BUR as social spaces integrated by different dimensions, agents and processes involved, that participate in their own production.

Keywords : rur-urban fringes; Peripheries; urban growand social actors.
