Abstract

This paper is an inventory of the brioflora of the Cerro El Ávila and Lagunazo in the National Park El Ávila, Venezuela. Six localities were sampled and 426 specimens collected. A total of 29 families, 74 genera and 111 species of mosses were found. The highest number of species was found on soil (37 species). The life form short turf (Cc) is represented in 44.7 % of the records. The following five species represent new additions to the Venezuelan bryoflora: Rhodobryum roseum (Hedw.) Limpr., Pilopogon tiquipayae Herzog, Taxiphyllum taxirameum (Mitt.) M. Fleisch., Leskea plumaria Mitt., and Bryoerythrophyllum campylocarpum (Müll. Hal.) H.A. Crum. Also, 22 mosses species are reported for the first time for Venezuela.
