Abstract
CADAVID-RAMIREZ, Lina Marcela and ARIAS VELEZ, Mateo. Kuhnian incommensurability and symbolic generalizations: A comparative analysis of the two theoretical paradigms of physics. Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. [online]. 2021, vol.45, n.175, pp.377-386. Epub Sep 12, 2021. ISSN 0370-3908. https://doi.org/10.18257/raccefyn.1258.
Since theories are lexicons whose terms cannot be translated assertively, the relationship between the two would be that of incommensurability but, does this assumption extends to the symbolic generalizations of a theory? To answer this question in terms of the concept of local incommensurability as conceived by Thomas Kuhn, in this article I initially analyze which terms of the formulation of classical and Einstenian physics are conmmensurable and which, incommensurable, to then examine the incompatibility of the symbolic-mathematical generalizations of the theories in question. The conclusion is that the two theories are incommensurable both from the standpoint of their conceptual taxonomy and the mathematical field.
