CORTES-BALLEN, Lorena; ZULUAGA-CARRERO, Juliana and MORALES-ROZO, Clara. Methodological proposal to address participatory ecological restoration in wetlands of Bogotá DC (Colombia). Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. [online]. 2021, vol.45, n.177, pp.1205-1218. Epub Feb 20, 2022. ISSN 0370-3908. https://doi.org/10.18257/raccefyn.1406.
Wetlands are ecosystems that represent valuable refuges for biodiversity in urban areas and offer innumerable services to citizens. However, they have been dramatically transformed over time mainly by urbanization processes. We propose here a methodological structure to address the participatory ecological restoration in wetlands of Bogotá D.C. made up of four stages and three lines of action: social management, environmental education, and restoration strategies. In that context, a network with 596 actors from five interest groups was consolidated, mostly with participants from the communities. The coverage was classified as follows: 56.5% of the surface of the wetlands corresponded to aquatic vegetation; 3% to infrastructure, and 40.5% to terrestrial vegetation, of which 20% was intervened through the proposed restoration strategies including 52 plant species from three ecological guilds in seven floristic designs on the land strip. The establishment and permanence of the processes that are carried out to conserve wetlands in Bogotá D.C. will depend to a large extent on the ecological strategies proposed and the will of the entities in charge of their administration.
