Abstract
BELTRAN, William Mauricio and CUERVO, Ivón Natalia. Pentecostalism in Rural Contexts of Violence. Case Study of El Garzal, Southern Bolívar, Colombia. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.52, n.1, pp.139-168. ISSN 0486-6525.
As in the rest of Colombia, the Pentecostal movement is rapidly growing in rural spaces and in places affected by armed conflict. Through a case study, this article explores the economic and political impacts of this process; specifically, the ability of Pentecostal movements to become spaces for social organization in order to confront economic precariousness and the threats associated with the Colombian armed conflict (kidnapping, massacres, and forced displacement). According to the case studied, the Pentecostal movement can facilitate the association of rural communities for the development of productive enterprises and for grassroots political organization, especially in processes of non-violent resistance.
Keywords : territory; rurality; non-violent resistance; pentecostalism; Magdalena Medio-Colombia.
