Abstract

RAMIREZ PEREZ, Daniel. The Teatro Bicentenário, space and infrastructural technology for the urbanity of aguadeños. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.59, n.1, pp.57-82.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 0486-6525.  https://doi.org/10.22380/2539472x.2420.

In this article I present a reading of the Aguadas', Caldas (Colombia), Bicentennial theater (teatro Bicentenario) as a space and infrastructural technology. This facility was built to commemorate 200 years of history of the town and since its inauguration it has hosted the Festival Nacional del Pasillo Colombiano. The material and symbolic importance recognized to it is such that its managers conceive it as a 'temple', a space that sacralizes art and culture. Based on the fieldwork I conducted in 2018, which includes a hemerographic approach, and further talks, I show how the Bicentenario materializes city expectations among people from Aguadas, while it prescribes suitable users for the theater and exemplary citizens for the city.

Keywords : infrastructural technology and space; civism; Aguadas; Teatro Bicentenario; civic culture.
