Abstract
ARGUELLO GARCIA, Pedro María. Prehispanic Settlement Patterns in the altiplano cundiboyacense, and its Consequences in the Constitution of Colonial Society. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.59, n.3, pp.158-181. Epub Sep 01, 2023. ISSN 0486-6525. https://doi.org/10.22380/2539472x.2467.
Built on ethno historical accounts, it has been considered that Indians inhabiting the altiplano cundiboyacense -center of Colombia- had a dispersed settlement pattern at the time of Spaniards arrival. This statement was the baseline for the establishment of several hypothesis regarding the constitution of colonial society. This article evaluates such hypotheses by mean of the analysis of the prehispanic settlement patterns for six regions at the altiplano cundiboyacense (Late Muisca period 700-400 BP) through spatial statistics -nearest neighbor and Ripley´s K. The result is quite contrary to which has been stated from ethnohistorical accounts and remarks that Indians households were close to each other, so the prehispanic settlement pattern can be outlined as nucleated.
