This study, with a phenomenological approach, enters the field of experience to unravel the sound identity of the Historic Center of Pasto, as a vestige of the memory of the place and of the non-place. In order to recognize and inter-pret the soundscape and contribute to the understanding of the urban space from the point of view of inhabiting, in the convergence between the human being, space and time, a methodology is proposed that begins with the sound recording of eighteen public spaces. From this repertoire, four particular environments are selected, as a representative sample: Plaza de Nariño, Pasaje Corazón de Jesús, Parque de Santiago and Parque Toledo. Taking the recordings made as input, cartophonies are elaborated that give rise to the sound identity cards and the spatial construction cards of the place that, as a whole, show the presence, permanence and plurality of the inhabited space. This interpretive phase gives way to collages, along with sound installations and multimedia production as translations from the sound to the visual. Listening to the soundscape of the Historic Center of Pasto, as a revealer of the place and the non-place, other camouflaged layers emerge, under globalized sound layers, typical of an Andean-indigenous tradition: cultural, artisanal, musical, and religious, a reflection of a society in which multiple generations and social classes coexist, accompanied by a natural sound background that still survives.
