This article aims to study the global methodological trends of appropriate technologies (TAs) developed in rural areas with social inclusion. A systematic review is carried out in scientific databases. The main methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed), tools and approaches in rural processes with TA are identified. The main factors (social, technical, economic, environmental, institutional, and cultural) and study variables in rural TA processes are also detected. The continents with the highest number of rural TA experiences are Africa and Asia. The energy sector associates 56.0% of the experiences detected.
