Cell phones are now more than a means of communication, including a number of applications that are configured as custom entertainment center, appealing to everyone. However, the consumption patterns of mobile phone among young people, have generated a break with the traditional mechanisms of interaction and socialization, which have led to setting up a new youth culture, including new forms of expression mobile technology movements. (Estupiñan, J & Chaparro, D. 2009). The development of this research main objective was to describe the reasons that lead to university students to use cell phones. Based on the theory of motivation Hoyer, & Macinnis. (2010), a methodology for quantitative type, where the dimensions "personal relevance", "perceived risk" and "inconsistency with attitudes" regarding the use of mobile phones continued to be analyzed. A sample of 200 subjects, who were applied a Likert scale was selected
