Abstract
RUIZ-CANIZALES, Raúl. Obesity, the Other Pandemic. An Approach from Bioethics and the Right to Non-discrimination in Mexico. Rev. colomb. bioét. [online]. 2020, vol.15, n.2, e06. Epub Feb 07, 2024. ISSN 1900-6896. https://doi.org/10.18270/rcb.v15i2.3203.
Purpose/Context.
This article seeks to describe from a bioethical approach how obesity and overweight are a pandemic problem not only for public health. This multifactorial problem requires a convergent view from different disciplines to guide actions around the right to health and the right to non-discrimination.
Method/Approach.
An interdisciplinary approach is employed to analyze obesity from its multifactorial manifestation so that the sciences that converge there establish action frameworks to design public policies for its prevention or mitigation.
Results/Findings.
Faced with the complex multifactorial nature of obesity, we identified how a wide range of factors appear alongside the right to non-discrimination that, when approached separatedly, result in disjointed actions.
Discussion/Conclusions/Contributions.
It contributes to the discussion on how we could advance the right to health regarding obesity and, above all, how to promote an interdisciplinary discussion on the moral, legal, and regulatory responsibility derived from the obesity problem.
