Abstract
SANCHEZ-RAMIREZ, Sandra Natalia and MALDONADO-SERRANO, Jorge Francisco. Processes of Musical Transformation. Petrona Martínez, the Case of a Bullerengue Singer. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2019, n.21, pp.112-123. Epub Mar 24, 2020. ISSN 2011-804X.
This paper addresses the case of traditional Bullerengue singer, Petrona Martínez, arguing that the transformations of the artist's musical production were constant since her first album was released in 1998 and until her last musical work in 2015. First, the paper provides an overall presentation of the singer. Then, it presents the different transformations that her musical practice has undergone due to the influence of the cultural industry, which are evident in her discography. Following that, the paper shows how this transformation relates to the idea of a Colombian musical identity. Finally, the paper concludes with the idea that the change from local to global is different in each case, and that it is not appropriate to try to universalize this process.
