Abstract
PRADA PRADA, Nancy. About Whores and Prostitutes. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2021, n.26, pp.128-143. Epub Feb 25, 2022. ISSN 2011-804X. https://doi.org/10.17227/ppo.num26-14383.
This reflective article arises from ongoing doctoral research, taking a critical look at abolitionist positions on prostitution, around the question: what implications do the conceptions about prostitutes have on the lives of whores who do not derive their livelihood from being whores? This discussion poses four implications that are dangerous for all women: i) abolitionist positions on prostitution infantilize us and call into question our ability to make our own choices. ii) Prostitution abolitionism seeks to manipulate our gaze: making the part appear as the whole. iii) Many of these positions are based on puritanical ideas about sexuality. iv) They recreate and encourage a conservative sexual morality that has never benefited women. A series of questions are suggested at the end as an invitation to open the feminist debate on these issues, instead of closing it.
Keywords : prostitution; sexuality; feminist movement.
