Abstract

ANTELM LANZAT, Ana M.; GIL-LOPEZ, Alfonso J.  and  CACHEIRO-GONZALEZ, María Luz. Analysis of Failure in School from the Standpoint of Students and How they Relate to the Learning Style. educ.educ. [online]. 2015, vol.18, n.3, pp.471-489. ISSN 0123-1294.  https://doi.org/10.5294/edu.2015.18.3.6.

This article has two primary objectives. The first is to analyze the causes of failure in school from the standpoint of students in their final year of mandatory secondary education in Spain. The second is to associate the learning style with students' academic perspectives and their perception of the causes of failure in school. A descriptive study was conducted with a sample of students from the educational community in Valencia, Spain. Two questionnaires were used. The first, constructed by the research team, analyzes the causes of school failure. The second - the CHAEA questionnaire - diagnosed the learning style. An analysis of the results of the questionnaire on schoolfailure resulted in four groups of causes: 1) student and family involvement in learning, 2) the student's socialization in the classroom, 3) cognitive training for the student, and 4) the family's economic and job situation.

Keywords : School failure; learning styles; educational contexts; secondary education; Valencia-Spain.
