Abstract
JAIMES-MONTANA, Isabel Cristina and VELEZ-ALVAREZ, Consuelo. Adoption of the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) Model according to the Statutory Law on Health: Is it an Advance in Public Policy?. Ágora U.S.B. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.2, pp.629-653. Epub June 16, 2022. ISSN 1657-8031. https://doi.org/10.21500/16578031.5159.
With Law 1751 of 2015, the fundamental nature of the right to health in Colombia was recognized. The norm included a conceptualization of health from the model of the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) as an integral aspect for its materialization and effective enjoyment of rights. However, for the fundamental right to health to become a reality, all the stakeholders in the system must understand health in a different way, as an integral and integrating concept, within a frame of reference, which involves SDH and that changes the assistance-based approach of the system toward the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. This work analyzed the progress of public health policy based on a theoretical and legislative review and 26 Departmental Development Plans. It is evident in these official documents an orientation of public policy under the model adopted in the Law.
