Abstract
CASTANO, ISABEL et al. ASSOCIATION BETWEEN BURNOUT SYNDROME IN INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENTS, THEIR REPORT OF THEIR SUBOPTIMAL CARE PRACTICES AND PATIENTS´REPORT. Univ. Psychol. [online]. 2006, vol.5, n.3, pp.549-562. ISSN 1657-9267.
This investigation pretended to establish the association between the Burnout Syndrome in internal medicine residents, the report of their sub optimal medical practices and the report of their hospitalized patients in charge, by using a multitrait-multimethod with a concurrent design that allows the research of two objects in the same investigation with convergent results. The translated version by Moreno (2004) of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the semi structured interview were used in medical residents, and a questionnaire to patients based on the scales proposed by McKinley, Manku-Scott, Hastings, French and Baker (1997) in their research. The results showed no association between the Burnout Syndrome and the report of the sub optimal practices from residents and patients. On the contrary, it was found a significant association between the communication category and the report of patients. Finally, suggestions are formulated for improvements of these sub optimal practices and complementary studiesare proposed.
