Abstract
DE OTO, Alejandro. The Colonial Analogy. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2018, n.29, pp.19-36. ISSN 1794-2489. https://doi.org/10.25058/20112742.n29.02.
In this essay, we will explore the consequences of thinking colonialism as an analogy, and how this affects the production of knowledge in humanities and social sciences. Relying upon Clifford Geertz’s analysis on the analogies of game, theater, and texts, I will propose to add the colonial analogy, which has had a deep impact in social thinking from the early 80s. The main idea is that in order to keep the space this analogy has produced open, we need to contextualize research work in order to have some foundation to set up a conversation with theoretical and discursive domains considered as a part of it, namely, post-colonial criticism and the decolonial turn.
Keywords : colonialism; analogy; coloniality; knowledge.
