Abstract
DELGADO J., Luis R.. Modernity and Governmentality: From Rural to Oil-Producing Venezuela. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2020, n.34, pp.154-172. Epub Feb 25, 2021. ISSN 1794-2489. https://doi.org/10.25058/20112742.n34.08.
This article analyses the scope and density of modern liberal governmentality in the Venezuelan nation-state, from its inception in 1830 up to the 1960s. By doing this we aim at distinguishing the impact of biopolitical regimes at two times -agrarian Venezuela in the 19th century and the early decades of oil-producing Venezuela. The strengthening of a liberal governmentality that only reached some of an outline in the 19th century was deployed on the basis of the financial power provided by the usufruct of oil profits.
