Abstract

The objective of this research was to compare psychological and physiological indicators in 14 hypertensive women (group 1) and 20 nurses normotensive (group 2) who work in areas of high stress in a high-specialty hospital. Material and methods: a cuasiexperimental design of repeated measurements (4) was use; in witch stressful events, distress, anxiety behavioral, blood pressure, pulse, body mass index and physical functional capacity were assessed. The results show significant differences between groups (Tukey Kramer test) in the total score of distress and in the number of negative events (higher in group 1) and positive events (lower in group 1), at 1 and 3 evaluations; the physical functioning capacity was also highest in group 1, in assessment 3 and 4. Discussion: execute psychological and physiological assessment with periodicity produces attitude and behavior changes, directed toward the care of the physical and emotional health in populations susceptible to stress.
