Abstract

Colombian economic growth over the last twenty years, has coincided with major changes in the internal conflict. It has increased spending on Defense and Security (GDS) to counter violence, the country has gone up primarily of two distinct periods the last twenty years. The first between 1993-2002 where illegal armed groups in Colombia were in a situation of high uncertainty and a second period from 2002 to 2012, where the military bowed to the guerrillas. This research analyzes the impact that has had on defense spending on national economic growth through the review of the macroeconomic variables of GDP, foreign investment and employment.
