Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical review of the stereoscopy concept based on a detailed analysis of its evolution and state of art. It explains the stereoscopy's operation, its phenomena and principles, and describes the stereoscopic vision process, the stereoscopic observation methods: convergent vision and parallel vision, and their techniques: spectral separation, temporal separation and spatial separation; the tools and devices that enable that vision and some of the most used applications in multiple fields of science, e.g. terrain reconstruction and telemedicine.
