Abstract

RESTREPO OCHOA, Orlando. Thrombosis-Thrombophilia in high-risk obstetrics. Rev Colomb Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2003, vol.54, n.1, pp.47-68. ISSN 0034-7434.

This paper reviews the association between maternal thrombophilias and venous thromboembolism, miscarriage, preeclampsia, abruption, intrauterine growth restriction and stillbirths. Emphasis is made on risk factors, diagnostic methods, surveillance, prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic disease. Special mention is made to the low molecular weight heparins as the anticoagulants of choice used for thromboprohylaxis and treatment during pregnancy. Finally, recomendations are made for treatment of several special situations in high risk obstetric: management of pregnant women with mechanical heart valves, and management of pregnant patients at increased risk for venous thromboembolism and pregnancy loss.

Keywords : hypercoagulable; endothelial injury; stasis; thrombosis; thrombophilia; heparins; warfarin; anticoagulant.
