Abstract
PALACIO GARCIA, Luis Alejandro and PARRA CARRENO, Daniel Felipe. THE VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TO PUBLIC GOODS DILEMMA: A REVIEW OF EXPERIMENTAL LITERATURE. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2014, vol.33, n.62, pp.124-144. ISSN 0121-4772. https://doi.org/10.15446/cuad.econ.v33n62.43668.
The article presents a review of experiments on public goods based on voluntary contribution mechanism. The empirical evidence shows that individuals are not only selfish and competitive beings representing orthodox economic theory, but are also kind and altruistic beings. Although several experimental studies agree on the existence of these feelings listed as "kindness", it is not yet clear whether subjects act this way to improve the welfare of others (altruism) or because they feel good doing these actions (warm-glow).
Keywords : Public goods experiments; free-rider; altruism; warm-glow.
