Abstract
MORA RODRIGUEZ, Luis Adrián. Domination and Corporality: Government Techniques in the Conquest of America. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2010, n.12, pp.13-29. ISSN 1794-2489.
This article explores the discourses and practices of power that are developed during the Spanish conquest of America, through texts written at that time. These texts allow us to understand how "understanding" of "American alterity" is informed and developed as just another way of domination. We aim to look at this epistemological construction critically, by relying on the concept of "government" developed Michel Foucault. Thus, we intend to show how domination and government techniques identified by the French thinker have a historical origin in the conquest of America.
Keywords : Michel Foucault; colonial subject; conquest; pacification; settlement.
