ABSTRACT The development of industries has brought serious harm to the environment and health, due to the generation of toxic waste as a result of those industries' processes. This waste includes heavy metals that are indiscriminately poured on water bodies. A decontamination alternative includes the use of remains, such as rice husk, that, thanks to its physical-chemical characteristics, looks like a good adsorbent of heavy metals. Several adsorption studies have been made, varying parameters such as particle size, pH, contact time and initial concentration of metals. These variables must be controlled in order to guarantee a higher efficiency in the process.
Keywords : rice husk; heavy metals; adsorption; decontamination.
