Abstract

GARCIA MARIN, María Eulalia. Deforestation: a practice that kills our biodiversity. Rev. P+L [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp.161-168. ISSN 1909-0455.  https://doi.org/10.22507/pml.v11n2a13.

ABSTRACT Deforestation is one of the ten biggest environmental issues nosadays. According to the IPCC we could think that this is also an issue we as humans have, as deforestation is related to other problems such as extinction of species, floods, erosion and atmospheric contamination. As logging of trees progresses, their contributions to the planet -such as the protection of the topsoil, their contribution to water cycles, the capture of C02, their role as home for many species and as part of beautiful landscapes- just dissapear. Many of the aspects related to the dissapearance of woods are in many occasions linked to our anthropocentric thinking, seeing nature as an endless storeroom at our service and disregarding its care and conservation.

Keywords : deforestation; environmental issues; reforestation; ethics.
