Abstract

IBANEZ, AGUSTINA. POLITICS OF THE (IM)PROPER NAME IN VIAJE AL CORAZÓN DEL DÍA. ELEGÍA POR UN SECRETO AMOR BY ARMONÍA SOMERS. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.23, pp.66-83.  Epub Feb 06, 2021. ISSN 2145-8987.  https://doi.org/10.25025/perifrasis202011.23.04.

This work addresses the problematization that the proper name arouses in the subjective and identitary configuration of the characters built in the novel Viaje al corazón del día. Elegía por un secreto amor (1986) by the uruguayan writer Armonía Somers (1914-1994). Far from being a mark of differentiation and individualization, the proper name of the somersian characters destabilizes any idea of subjective uniqueness and erase the limits between self and other to the extend of duplicating, unfolding and confusing the borders between identity / sameness / otherness.

Keywords : Armonía Somers; proper name; literature; XXth century; Uruguay.
