Abstract

BURGOS-GALLEGO, Manuel Felipe. In the shadow of the Operation Condor: Functioning and application of the National Security Statute in Colombia (1978 - 1982. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.1, pp.241-269.  Epub Dec 16, 2022. ISSN 0122-2066.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v28n1-2023009.

The formulation of the National Security Statute decree in Colombia during the government of President Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala, together with the help of the country’s military sphere, targeted a broad sector of individuals. Militants, unionists, social and university leaders, as well as intellectuals were considered opposed to the policies of the “Turbayista” government and were seen as enemies of the nation and its interests. These actions promoted a series of legal-military and social actions during the 70s and 80s that led to the suffocation of those sources of subversion and revolution in Colombia, as in many other countries of the region.
