Abstract
SALDARRIAGA, Clara; RAMIREZ, Juan D; CARDONA, María C and FRANCO, Gloria. Prognostic value of C-reactive protein in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Rev. Colomb. Cardiol. [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.5, pp.268-272. ISSN 0120-5633.
INTRODUCTION: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a predictor of cardiovascular events, whose relationship with death, reinfarction or revascularization after stent implantation in patients with acute coronary syndrome, is a topic of current research. OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the prognostic value of C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients with acute coronary syndrome who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. METHODS: retrospective study, comparing death, reinfarction or revascularization at 1, 6 and 12 months after percutaneous coronary intervention in the group of low CRP (below 5 mg / L) vs. High CRP (greater than or equal to 5). Parametric tests were applied for comparing two means (Student t test) and Pearson Chi-square. RESULTS: we included 103 patients with acute coronary syndrome, 60.2% with myocardial infarction with non-ST-elevation and 41 with myocardial infarction with ST elevation; mean age was 65, 4 ± 12.4 years and the average value of the PCR was 7.7 ± 8.7 mg / L. There were no differences regarding MACE 1, 6 and 12 months; we observed a nonsignificant trend toward higher death and infarction at six months and toward revascularization and myocardial infarction at twelve months in the high CRP group. CONCLUSION: the results suggest a nonsignificant trend to increased adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with stent implantation for acute coronary syndrome who had high CRP.
