CRIADO MORALES, MARÍA LUCENITH and RUBIANO MESA, YURIAN. Functional family Effectiveness with first semester freshmen adolescents in the family at the Fundación Universitaria San Gil. av.enferm. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.2, pp.71-81. ISSN 0121-4500.
This study determines and analyzes functional family effectiveness with first semester freshmen adolescents families at the Fundación Universitaria San Gil in the 2008-first semester, based on the systemic organization theoretical framework" of Dr. María Luisa Friedemann. This is a descriptive cross study; the sample comprised 150 families. Adolescents received the social-demographic card and the " Family adaptability and cohesion evaluation scale" which enables measuring concepts from theory and which reflects family functions. Data were processed in SPSS version 10.0 and analyzed through descriptive statistics. Results show that 69.3% adolescents are female, 88.7% catholic, 58.7% dedicated exclusively to studying. 55.3% of families are nuclear, 63.3% with an average of 4 to 6 members, in 60.7% adolescents' parents are married and 38% of the families receive income for 2 monthly minimum wage salaries. 65.3% of the families show low effectiveness in family functioning, 32.7% intermediate level and 2% high effectiveness in functioning. It is concluded that effectiveness of familiar functioning is low be-cause they are " families struggling to maintain stability in opposition to external norms, preventing access to new knowledge and interfering with the family morphogenesis" (1).
