Abstract
SANCHEZ CABARCAS, Fabio. Mirage in the desert: the flaws in the first phase of U.S. involvement in Iraq. Civilizar [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.21, pp.49-68. ISSN 1657-8953.
The U.S. intervention in Iraq since 2003 is one of their last challenges in its foreign policy. Under a strong unilateralism and without UN approval G.W. Bush Administration decided to invade a key player in the balance of power in the Middle East. In its fight against international terrorism, the outcomes are adverse: growth of the insurgency and fundamentalism, administrative failures in the reconstruction (ORHA and CPA), and military actions against civilians in an irregular conflict. These are factors that account of a failed American policy.
