From the UNESCO Declaration on Science and the Use of Scientific Knowledge, 1999, as well as from the Budapest Open Access Initiative, known as BOIA-2002, knowledge has been put in the service of the development of science and society. The acceptance and implementation of these international initiatives has enabled the free availability of content without financial, legal or technical barriers; as long as the authors are properly recognized and cited. The main advantages of these manifestations include an increased visibility and the use and impact of publications. That is, in this way, authors can disseminate their writings to a wider readership.
Scientific journals are the main way for research papers to achieve an open access. This route, called golden, ensures quality through rigorous peer review and editorial management. Journal Civilizar Ciencias Sociales y Humanas, attached to this process, belongs also to the list of platinum route, as it is a non-commercial alternative in which the publication involves no cost for the authors. Some of the directories, databases and indexing systems in which Civilizar Ciencias Sociales y Humanas, is included and which allow its free access are, among others: DOAJ, SciELO, REDALYC, PUBLINDEX and EBSCO-Academic Premier. The Editorial Direction, in line with its policy of excellence, is constantly working in order to make the access to the contents of the journal increasingly open, in accordance with the policy of social projection of Sergio Arboleda University; because this way a tool is transferred, and provided for the appropriation of knowledge generated by academic and scientific community.
