Abstract
VARGAS A., Esther Juliana. Scientific knowledge and digital media in the academy: the problem of quality standards. Civilizar [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.26, pp.149-162. ISSN 1657-8953.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the technical and social conditions that enable the system towards which the current academic information is moving, that is, digital resources. It will be seen that there is a constant tension between the availability of technological resources and their implementation or acceptance among academics - what we would call de "sociological" conditions. The main reason for this tension is the concern for quality. The validation of academic products generated in digital environments does not necessarily have the same rate as that of technological advances since this validation depends on variables which are additional to the availability of digital resources.
Keywords : Academic infrastructure; quality standards; technological resources; social validation.
