Abstract
BRANGIER, VICTOR and LORCA, MAURICIO. The typical zone of "Lo Zúñiga", Chile. Conflicts around heritage and uses ofhistory in a landscape shaped by property. memorias [online]. 2023, n.49, pp.42-68. Epub Nov 13, 2023. ISSN 1794-8886. https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.49.121.352.
The article problematizes the narrative related to the construction and consolidation of agricultural property in the central valley of Chile as a space that has been understood by traditional historiography as the origin of national identity. The arguments aimed at officially recognizing the colonial settlement of Lo Zúñiga as a "typical zone" presented it as a static reflection of an early cultural landscape configured by the large estate and the labor and social relations and cultural practices that took place within it. However, the declaration that conferred heritage status to the town in 2005 has begun to be challenged by local inhabitants and social organizations -who were absent from the original process that requested this distinction-, questioning, in passing, the updating of the traditional historiographic account as the hegemonic narrative on which an important part of the heritage value of Lo Zúñiga was based. This research focused on the analysis of the file of declaration that was built between 2000 and 2005 and is kept by the Council of National Monuments of Chile.
