Abstract

LUJAN-TANGARIFE, Jorge Armando  and  CARDONA-ARIAS, Jaiberth Antonio. Construction and evaluation of a scale of knowledge, attitudes and practices about HIV/AIDS in university adolescents from Medellin (Colombia). Salud, Barranquilla [online]. 2015, vol.31, n.2, pp.201-213. ISSN 0120-5552.

Objective: To develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of a KAP scale about HIV/ AIDS among university students in Medellin. Methods: Cross-sectional and assessment scales study in a probability sample of 210 university adolescents in Medellin. Source of primary information was used consistent in a KAP scale with scores between zero and one hundred. The data were stored and analyzed in SPSS 21.0 ®. The description is made with proportions and summary measures, reliability was assessed with Cronbach's alpha, internal consistency and discriminant validity with Pearson correlation coefficients; content validity, construct and predictive with factor analysis through principal component. Results: KAP score ranged between 67 and 74 points, the percentage of success in the internal consistency and discriminant validity was 100 %, in the content validity and construct the success rate was over 90 %, in the reliability alpha Cronbach were equal or exceed 0.7, in the predictive validity the percentage of variance explained by the items of the scale was 66 %. Conclusions: The scale had good psychometric performance in the population of university adolescents, so its application provides reliable and valid measures to assess the KAP on HIV/ AIDS in groups with similar socio-demographic characteristics.
