Abstract

VOLCY, Michel. Pathophysiology of migraine. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.1, pp.44-52. ISSN 0120-8748.

Migraine is a neurobiological disease. Several brain structures are involved in pain processing, with the presence of neural and biochemical phenomena that modulate the response of the nervous system. Through several studies it can be found the presence of different elements involved in the generation of migraine, changes in periacueductal grey and brain stem fare, genetics, neuronal phenomenon as cortical spreading depression y neurotransmitters release such as CGRP and serotonin. These neurotransmitters mediate several processes as neurogenic inflammation, and functional changes en another areas as autonomic nerves.

Keywords : Migraine; Neurotransmitter; Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide; Serotonin.
