Abstract

MENDES ACIOLE, Italy Heibe; DE ANDRADE JUNIOR, Francisco Patricio; VILAR CORDEIRO, Laísa  and  PEREIRA DE SOUZA, Júlia Beatriz. Aloe gel: manipulation and characterization of physical-chemical quality adjustment. Rev. colomb. cienc. quim. farm. [online]. 2020, vol.49, n.3, pp.790-805.  Epub Feb 25, 2021. ISSN 0034-7418.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcciquifa.v49n3.91345.

The objective of the study was to develop and characterize the gel based on Aloe vera for the Manoel Casado de Almeida Pharmacy School. The research was done at the Education and Health Center off the Federal University of Campina Grande, located in the city of Cuité (PB). For the quality control, chemical physical tests were carried out as determine pH, apparent density, viscosity, spreadability and centrifugation test. The gel demonstrated acceptable physicochemical characteristics exhibiting pH 5, bulk density 0.1018 (± 0.0008), viscosity above 10 000 cP, and adequate stability. Complementary studies on microbiological quality are suggested, to give safety on their therapeutic potential in wound management.

Keywords : Aloe; phytotherapy; medicinal plants; complementary therapies.
