Abstract

SIMOES, Julian. Intellectual Disability, Gender and Sexuality: some ethnographic notes on a APAE in the state of São Paulo-Brazil. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2015, vol.63, suppl.1, pp.143-148. ISSN 0120-0011.  https://doi.org/10.15446/revfacmed.v63n3sup.50122.

This article aims to analyze the concept of disability and the implication on how to apprehend the sexuality of students in an Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais (APAE) of a city in the state of SP-BR. For APAE's teachers, intellectual disability is a synonym of lack and handicap. Therefore, the student's sexuality is conceived as uncontrolled and dangerous. For Association's students, disability is one of multiple configurations of human existence. Thus, sexuality is understood as a way to ease their disabled condition. Therefore, I privileged the analysis of how both notions are regulated and how they lead to limit sexual regulations stressing on their reshaping (of the regulations).
